Abstract Lines

Access to the Lyme RIB Rides pontoon (managed by Dorset Council) is via a gated set of steps located at the south end of Victoria Pier, within Lyme Regis Harbour. Please be aware of the following:

Steps & Handrail:

  • The steps have a single handrail on one side, but they can become slippery at certain times. Please take care when using them.

Floating Pontoon:

  • While designed to be stable, the pontoon can move with the water and may require some balance to navigate safely.

Tidal Movement:

  • As the harbour is tidal, the pontoon rises and falls with the water level. At certain times, there may be a small gap between the pontoon and the steps. A small handrail is available to assist with stepping between them.

A Lyme RIB Rides team member will always be on hand to provide guidance before you access the steps. They are happy to assist in any way required—please don’t hesitate to ask.

For safety reasons, all customers must wait at the top of the steps until directed down to the boat by our staff.

Boarding the RIB:

  • Entry to the RIB is over the inflatable tube, which is equipped with an inbuilt rope for a firm hold.

  • The tube is covered with a specially gripped material to provide secure footing, even when wet.

  • For stability and safety, the boat will always be securely tied at both the front and rear to the pontoon, minimizing any gap between the boat and the pontoon.

Seating Arrangement:

  • The RIB features individual ‘jockey-style’ seats, similar to motorcycle seats, arranged in six pairs.

  • Each seat has a handhold in front for additional support.

  • For safety and supervision, it is recommended that a responsible adult sit next to a child in their care, ensuring easy communication, immediate assistance, and a clear line of sight.

Seat Selection & Safety Considerations:

  • The front two rows experience greater shock, load, and force compared to the seats toward the rear of the boat.

  • Passengers should carefully consider this when selecting seats, particularly those who may prefer a smoother ride.

  • Your skipper will provide guidance and will load passengers from the rear seats first for safety and balance.
